Campaign Consultation, Inc. Partners with Global Movement Hands Across the Sand

Campaign Consultation, Inc had the honor of partnering with the recent global movement Hands Across the Sand which took place on June 26, 2010.

As the social media / viral organizer, Campaign Consultation helped turn what originated as a Florida statewide event — which included over 10,000 people on nearly 100 beaches on February 12, 2010 — into a worldwide movement with more than 100,000 participants in 901 locations.

Overall Hands Across the Sand Statistics for June 26th:

  • 901 total events organized
  • 797 events organized in the U.S. in 537 different U.S. cities
  • Events organized in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico
  • 104 events organized outside the U.S. in 37 countries
  • 42,250+ Facebook fans
  • 1,200+ Twitter followers
  • 5,000+ Flickr and Facebook photos
  • 250+ YouTube videos

Hands Across the Sand‘s message was simple. Join hands to say NO to offshore oil drilling and YES to clean energy and renewables. On June 26th, individuals gathered and drew a line in the sand against offshore oil drilling along America’s beaches and across the globe.

Steven Rivelis, CEO of Campaign Consultation, predicts that this historical event “Will be a tipping point in the advancement of a global clean energy agenda.”

Already Hands Across the Sand has attracted massive national media attention with articles in the New York Times, LA Times, Boston Globe, Huffington Post, plus it’s been featured twice on the front page of CNN.com.

As Dave Rauschkolb, founder of Hands Across the Sand, says “The metaphor of joining hands goes far beyond people lining up and joining hands on the beach. People from all walks of life and social and economic standing, organizations, politicians, entertainers, house wives, school kids, college students, surfers and soccer players are joining hands, united in the lines they create and the belief that offshore oil drilling is dangerous and damaging to our coastal and marine environment and coastal economies.”

Campaign Consultation had the privilege to work alongside key Organizational sponsors which included: Sierra Club, Surfrider Foundation, Audubon, Oceana, Greenpeace, MoveOn.org, 350, Environmental America, Friends of the Earth, Ocean Conservancy, Center for Biological Diversity, 1 Sky, Energy Action Coalition, Defenders of Wildlife, Rainforest Action Network, Clean Water Action, Endangered Species Coalition, Earth Day 2010 and Spawn.

Digital Capital Week

Danielle Ricks, Campaign Consultation’s Social Media Specialist, is attending Digital Capital Week, a 10-day festival focused on technology, innovation and all things digital. Danielle is thrilled to attend, focusing on absorbing information that will be used to help further the technology of Campaign Consultation as well as our clients and collaborators.

Organizers Peter Corber of iStrategy Labs, along with Frank Gruber and Jen Consalvo of Shiny Heart Ventures, are providing attendees with an overlapping mix of information sessions, panels, hands on workshops and informal gatherings known as “unconferences”. The idea behind Digital Capital Week is to strengthen the capital region’s digital economy with a focus on creativity, technology, entrepreneurship, marketing, content creation and innovation.

Opening night included an interactive “thankful for gratitude graffiti wall” presented by DCWEEK co-producer Shiny Heart Ventures, asking attendees what they were thankful for about in DC. This quickly became a focal point of the evening.

On Saturday afternoon, the City Camp DC “unconference” accomplished much the DC Week’s mission. Attendees heard from City Officials who were looking for new ways to use technology to support everything from transportation needs as well as ways to reach out to the DC arts community. Danielle is looking forward to attending more panels and events.

In addition to being our Social Media Specialist, Danielle Ricks is a part of the DC Tech community. She helped develop these programs that will reach far beyond the 10-day festival.

First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Read. Let’s Move. Initiative

Campaign Consultation is delivering services for Let’s Read. Let’s Move. This initiative combats childhood obesity by promoting physical activity and access to healthy, affordable food while encouraging reading over the summer in preparation for the upcoming school year. This is an intricate Administration-wide effort implemented by the Corporation for National and Community Service in collaboration with First Lady Michelle Obama and five federal agencies – Department of Education, Department of the Interior, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Agriculture and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Our services include redesigning the Serve.gov website, incorporating the Let’s Read. Let’s Move. section content and design and creating collateral material including posters, bookmarks, bumper stickers and a backpack design. We are busy at work developing a series of webinars for Let’s Read. Let’s Move. that will focus on summer exercise, eating healthy and reading. Stay tuned for more details as this wonderful initiative unfolds.

Firehouse 31 – Giving

Throughout my childhood, I observed my single mom doing what she could to help neighborhood causes.  Often, she wasn’t able to give financially – instead, she found ways to contribute by coordinating events, soliciting donations and the ever-important “schlepping.”   It is in this way that I learned to get involved and participate in local efforts.

Recently, I offered to coordinate a donation for the Waverly Firehouse #31 in Baltimore, MD.  Following a massive rehab, the Firehouse hosted a Grand Opening Cookout on Saturday, May 29, 2010.  Knowing that they would need food for this event, I contacted the Committee and offered to organize the purchase of hotdogs and buns for this event.  Team members at Campaign Consultation, Inc. readily agreed to donate money for this purchase – and like my mom, I offered to buy and deliver the food.  It was suggested that we invite Eddie’s Market of Charles Village to help us with this purchase.  Not only did they match us “dog-for-dog and bun-for-bun,” but they sold us these items at cost!  Due to the generosity of my co-workers, we had more than enough money to buy hot dogs and buns – as well as ketchup, mustard, relish and sauerkraut – so I opted to buy an Eddie’s gift certificate for the Firehouse to use for any “last minute items.”

There was a large turn out and friends remarked on the success of this event.  I am honored to be a small part of this celebration – and to “pay it forward” as my mom has shown me time and time again.
